Early Years

One of four children, raised in rural Northwest Ohio.  Father was a Korean War era veteran, mother stayed home to raise the four of us.  Church and faith was an important part of my upbringing with strong family values.  Both of my grandfathers were farmers as well as many of my uncles.  Why is this background important and relevant? This foundation and family centered values are critical in a leadership position in a city that shares this common bond.  As your Councilman, I prioritize you and your family’s wellness, your right to observe your faith, and your trust in the city that you call home.

Background

After obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, worked for 13 years at Philips Display Components in Ottawa, Ohio as a Production Supervisor, Process Engineer, and Engineering Manager.  Obtained the skills and respect of working with a unionized workforce.  Due to outsourcing of the manufacturing to Mexico, was forced into a career move.

With the factory closure, I transitioned into healthcare as a Six Sigma Back Belt, Project Manager, and Director of Graduate Medical Education at Mount Carmel Health System in Columbus, Ohio for 17 years.  During this time I obtained a Masters of Business Administration from Franklin University.  At Mount Carmel, I was instrumental in improving processes for the front line care giver, making care safer, and more efficient.

In 2020, my wife and I decided it was time for a change.  We discovered that Eastern Washington was the place to be.  As a faculty member with the Washington State University College of Medicine and Director of Graduate Medical Education, I am actively working to improve health and wellness through training physicians for Washingtonians.

Personal

While working in Ottawa, Ohio, I met my wife and we have been married for 34 years.  We raised two children, have three grandchildren, and love Deer Park.  Both of us are incredibly active in the community.  When not in Deer Park, we love exploring our beautiful state and country.
